Emfuleni Municipality fails to pay September salaries

VANDERBIJLPARK – Emfuleni Local Municipality is facing a heightened financial crisis after Eskom attached four bank accounts.
The municipality owes over R8 billion for electricity supply.

This is roughly 10% of the total debt the country’s municipalities owe to Eskom.
The attachments of Emfuleni’s bank accounts led municipal employees to go without a salary at the end of September.
