The development conscious governor of kakamega county was elevated to become the first governor from western region to chair the council of governors. It came as a surprise to many who were expecting the Kwale governor Salim Mvurya to take the mantle from Turkana governor Joshua Nanok.

Nanok wanted to retain the coveted seat but forces behind the scenes could not listen to him.  The Turkana governor had previously closed ranks with jubilee leadership for his selfish gain but that could not help to retain him further.

Salim Mvurya who publicly announced his disappointment, was not preferred by the statehouse. But why? Sources close to the house on the hill disclosed that Mvurya who’s close confidant to the Dp William Ruto could not be a suitable person to lead the governors.  He was seen as a person who will place the DP’s interests first.

The president has occassionaly supported the kakamega county governor including celebrating jamhuri day at Bukhungu stadium. He was his best gamble and this continues to put the Dp at the back seat.
