The Deputy president Hon. William Ruto is currently getting support and opposition in equal measure. The unusual opposition is now emerging from his backyard in Rift valley within his kalenjin community.
The lawmakers are blaming the Dp on the issue of the maize scandal. They accuse him of being behind importation of maize by NCPB. Farmers in Rift valley especially in Uasin Gishu the home turf of the Dp are lamenting that the offer by the government of sh. 2300 per 90kg of maize is too low thus counting loses.
Farmers are hoping for better prices but their cries have not yielded fruits. The government maintains its position of buying maize at sh. 2300.
Speaking on NTV’s sidebar program last week, Mp for cherangany said that the Dp is behind the farmers woos and he would not receive his support instead he will rally behind ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi during 2022 presidential elections.
He was speaking alongside Analyst Barrack Muluka and Uasin Gishu county woman representative Galdys Shollei. Hon. Shollei decided to take a neutral ground on the issue of maize scandal.
