The contest to inherit the Hon. Alfred Wekesa Sambu as Mp of Webuye East has attracted over 8 contestants so far. Seven Men have shown interest with only one lady in the race. The retiring Mp won on ANC ticket and no one so far has shown interest to use the Party. Contestants have shown interest in only four Parties to use come August this year. They parties include ODM, DAP-kenya, Ford Kenya and UDA.
In ODM the Businessman Mr. Noah Chiuli has an upper hand to clinch the ticket against a longtime unionist Mr. Agrey Namisi. The latter has a small chance because he’s yet to become a resident of Webuye East 7 months to election. Dr. Iyaya who finished second in the last elections, had hinted on joining DAP-kenya party but made a U-turn back to UDA. He did so after realizing that Ms. Caroline Buyela Kubasu will get the ticket easily because of her close relationship with the top leadership of the party, according to the sources. Thus Dr. Iyaya will have to battle it out with Flamboyant money bag Mr. Muyundo for UDA ticket.
It’s evident that Hon. Martin Pepela Wanyonyi will run using FORD Kenya ticket after he publicly denounced DAP-Kenya. He coherently stated that he has worked with FORD Kenya as a party and the party leader Hon. Moses Wetangula for close to four years and that’s the vehicle he will use. “DAP-Kenya and UDA leadership have come to me severally requesting for my candidature in their respective parties but it’s an effort in futile,” he said on the local FM Radio interview. Seemingly the two parties do not have confidence in their current probable candidates. He stated that, he doesn’t have any personal vendetta with the CS for defense Hon. Eugine Wamalwa. “Hon. Wamalwa and I have a long history and still have a very cordial relationship”, he emphasized.
