Ms Nancy Gitau is not common in public. She comes with the same ingredients of former head of public service Dr. Sally Kosgei. The lady is so powerful even the politicians will not wish to encounter her with wrong reasons. Sources indicate that she was the key individual in President Uhuru’s re-election team. Those who have worked with her, describes her as very smart strategist and excellent coordinator.
During Jubilee administration first term she resigned in 2016 following pressure from politicians allied to the Deputy President. But still others believed that the powerful woman of our times was working behind the scenes. At one point Kapseret Mp Oscar Sudi named her as one of the individuals behind the Mt. Kenya Meetings. Leaders from Mt. Kenya and Rift Valley have varied opinions on her influence in the government.
Then, who is Ms. Nancy Gitau?
Gitau was employed as the President Advisor on matters politics. When her relationship with the forces around the Dp deteriorated was moved from statehouse to work from Harambee house. Before her resignation, she had moved to a private office where she was working from. Since then she has been the center of infighting between the two camps. The two groups today are commonly known as tangatanga and kieleweke. Earlier on it was URP and TNA camps. On re-election the president brought back Nancy in the house on the hill. It’s clear she cannot put up with the Deputy President. Now that this the President’s last term, the Dp has only one option; keep off the power circles.
The unsounding powerful lady was also mentioned in a fake letter from Dennis Itumbi alleging that she also attended the La Mada meeting with four cabinet secretaries. Mr. Itumbi claimed that the meeting was aimed to finish the Deputy President. In 2014 at the Haque, Dr. William Ruto’s lawyer claimed that Gitau and Ps Mutea Iringo recruited ICC witnesses to fix the Deputy President during cross-examination of witness.
Gitau worked for USAID for a couple of years where she headed the democracy and governance unit. She is understood to have natured a crop of civil society leaders during her time. Now that the marriage between the President and his Deputy is over, we wait to see the position she will be awarded before the end of this administration in 2022.
