The wait for the change at the Helm of the technical bench came to an end on Thursday 18th April, 2019 as the top leadership unveiled new tacticians to rescue the team thats battling to survive relegation. The former coach Mike Muiruri and his assistant Francis Xaviour were shown the door after consistent poor performance by the team. This happened after team lost to Zoo kericho the previous day at the Green stadium.
Announcing the new caretaker senior coach Sammy Okoth and his assistant Mr. Alex Alumirah, the team president Mr. Indimuli Kahi was confident the new team will spearhead Vihiga United in the right direction. He expressed his commitment to see the team remain on the top league in the country.
Mr. Sammy Okoth is experienced coach who has been the head coach at Zoo kericho before this appointment. On the other hand Alex Alumirah who has successfully managed Vihiga Queens that has won league titles year in year out is expected to bring on board the passing game witnessed at the Queens cage. Alex together with Okumbi and Kimanzi are the masters of KNVB in Kenya. Speaking after his appointment, the Vihiga Queens tactician said that the task ahead won’t be easy but they are equal to the task and called upon everyone support the team to achieve its meaningful success.
