The covid-19 period has made and on the equal measure broken leaders whom people perceived as outstanding in the past. One of them is the Cabinet secretary for education Prof. George Magoha. This is the man who streamlined programmes in University of Nairobi and even brought stability to the extent that there was no students’ rampage for 8 years. He was regarded as an individual who believed in the rule of law and equality for everyone.
Prof. Magoha is his wisdom directed that all teachers both in public and private schools must be tested before schools resume. He elaborated that it should to be done because one teacher can infect 200 learners. According to him, students could have resumed back with no single one being positive of covid-19. Currently Kenya has over 300,000 teachers registered under Teachers Service Commission.

The Ministry of Education and Teachers service Commission promised to come up with guidelines for teachers to continue engaging students across the estates and villages. Yesterday the guidelines were issued and the stakeholders are being called upon to comply. In his wisdom, Magoha and Teachers Service Commission have instructed teachers to register with the education officials within their present locality. According to TSC this will facilitate community based learning to go own within the villages. The classes will have upto 15 learners and lessons last for four hours.
All students and teachers to wear masks and social distancing adhered to. The ministry is not taking care of the level of leaners as per the classes. How a teacher will engage learners from different classes within four hours. The Cs for education once again gets it very wrong. Where are the resources for teaching and learning to take place? Will the ministry hire social halls or tents and chairs? If that is the case then he should just open up schools without further delay because the activities organized are not only remote but also not tenable.
