e753: ANTIQUE 11¾" DELFT BLUE BOWL PORCELEYNE FLES

It is my pleasure to offer you this ANTIQUE DELFT BLUE BOWL produced by The Porceleyne Fles in Delft The Netherlands.
As the new owner of The Porceleyne Fles in 1876, Joost Thooft had an insatiable hunger for knowledge about "his" product. Together with Adolf Lecomte, his teacher at the Polytechnic School, he conceived a plan to breath new life into the old and glorious tradition of The Porceleyne Fles: the manufacture of hand-painted delftware. The man with the needed experience was the 73-year old Cornelis Tulk who had been in this company since 1813. Not only was he the expert on the traditional craft of making delftware, he had also mastered the peculiar technique of painting on earthenware. His skill became apparent at the Amsterdam Exhibition of Applied Arts in 1877 where he presented his first items (dishes, jars and pots) painted in blue on white Englisch clay. From that moment on all abjects were given a distinct and contempory trade mark: a bottle with the initials of Joost Thooft. Some time later the initials of the painter were added and in 1879 the objects also were marked with a letter, starting with the "A" to indicate the production year.
This item with the typical decoration of Tulk is fully marked on the bottom with the yearmark B (=1880), the Royal Delft Logo, The stylized JT of Joost Thooft and the master painters initials LS (= L.J. Senf who worked at De Porceleyne Fles from 1878-1930).

CONDITION:
This bowl is in GOOD condition. One of the handles has been broken and was reglued quite some time ago. Further no cracks, chips, flakes or any other flaws. Of course it has the normal crazing of an old Fles-item as can be seen on the last picture.
