COVID-19: Measures to be announced on Saturday on re-opening of the economy-PS

The government is contemplating on reopening of the economy this weekend according to the permanent secretary in the ministry of interior Karanja Kibicho. The Ps was speaking while being interviewed on Radio Citizen. He said there’s a team that is coming up with measures which will be announced despite the rising cases of COVID-19.
The Ps said that the decision is very difficult to make from the government as the coronavirus cases continue to skyrocket. “High level discussions are going on to see this go through”, he alluded.

The powerful Ps in the Uhuru administration echoed the President’s statement last week on the current stringent measures. He said the lockdown cannot continue forever. He emphasized on the need of reopening for people to go back to work and government to get revenue accrued.

Some measures won’t be lifted to avoid putting Kenyans in more vulnerable situations by exposing them to the virus. Measures like putting on masks and social distancing will be strictly enacted according to the Ps.
Sources also indicate that the cessation of movement in and out of counties locked down will be lifted. That means Nairobi and coastal counties will be open for movement in and out. The hours for the curfew might be reduced or altogether done away with.
