Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has directed its regional staff to collect and forward data of school heads who have stayed in one station for over nine years.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) is furious with TSC over impending mass transfers. Over 30000 heads of public schools have been identified for transfer in April this year.
TSC national office send a Memo in February this year to all regional directors to furnish her with the details of primary school heads and principals of secondary schools.

The commission has also requested for data of teachers above 50 years of age with underlying medical issues. This is help them work from home to reduce the risk due effects of Covid-19 pandemic. Principals above 55 years of age will not be transferred according to the memo signed by TSC chief executive Dr. Nancy Macharia.

The following are the details captured by the regional directors as requested by the Teachers service commission in Nairobi; home county of the principals complete with details of their current station, the size of the school, the sponsor of the institution, the category of the school, enrolment data, the mean score registered by the schools for the last three years between 2017 and 2019, the principal’s present designation, job group, and gender must also be captured.

Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion has already opposed the move terming it retrogressive and aimed at disrupting families. He said TSC has also sneaked the policy through the ministry of education in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report. He has threatened TSC with Industrial action if they proceed with delocalization process.
Defending the transfers, Dr Macharia said transfers and delocalisation were negotiated and signed by the two teachers’ unions and documented in the CBA.
